FINISH recruitment: ✓

FINISH is a national multicenter randomized controlled trial with the aim to assess the effect of intraoperative subdural irrigation on the risk of recurrent hematoma in patients undergoing burr-hole surgery for a chronic subdural hematoma.

The trial started in HUS in January 2020. After some delays caused by the early phases of the Covid-19 pandemic, the rest of the centers (TAYS, TYKS, KYS, OYS) were able to join during the summer and fall of 2020 and were all up and running by October 2020. We initially set out to recruit 540 patients, which was then increased to 578 patients.

As of 17 August 2022, all 578 trial participants have been recruited and operated on. The primary follow-up of 6 months will be completed in February 2023.

The trial has been an enormous endeavor by all participating hospitals and researchers, and we are extremely grateful to study members for making this journey with us.
