FINDISC-Pain trial launched in Helsinki

FICEBO is pleased to announce the launch of FINDISC-Pain, a new placebo-controlled surgical trial investigating the effectiveness of microdiscectomy for sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation.
“We are very pleased to see FINDISC-Pain move into the recruitment phase after years of careful planning,” says Olli Rytsölä, Principal Investigator of the study. “This has truly been a team effort across disciplines, and we are grateful to everyone who has contributed.”

Co-Principal Investigator Teija Lund adds: “Launching a placebo-controlled surgical trial requires strong collaboration and commitment. We look forward to generating high-quality evidence to better inform the care of patients with sciatica.”
The trial is the result of extensive collaborative preparation. Surgeons, researchers, trial methodologists and research staff have worked closely together to finalise the protocol, secure approvals and necessary contracts, and prepare the study infrastructure. The launch marks an important milestone for the entire team. The research coordinators taking care of this trials preparations and execution are Saara Raatikainen and Kati Jaatinen.

Patient recruitment and surgeries for the trial have now begun in Helsinki, with additional centres set to start recruitment later.
