Role in FICEBO:
Senior researcher MD, PhD – FIMAGE and PROMISE
Who are you?
I am a shoulder and elbow surgeon at the Helsinki University Hospital.
Favorite part of your job?
The single best thing is the people I work with. Next, of course, is the incredible feeling I get when I treat something particularly difficult, and the patient has a favorable outcome.
Why did you decide to enter your field?
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to become an orthopaedic surgeon. This is largely due to seeing my father thoroughly enjoy his work as an orthopaedic surgeon, and that probably rubbed off on me.
Who/What inspires you?
My wife and kids! Then, of course, spending time with my family at our summerhouse in Inkoo. There is nothing better than to relax, enjoy a cold beer, and watch the sunset after a fun day spent engaged in a variety of activities, building things, playing with the kids, carrying out various watersports or boating.
The most interesting article you’ve read recently?
I may be a bit biased (FICEBO addition: and politically correct) but I must say that I found the FISH trial by Lasse Rämö very interesting and helpful to my daily clinical practice.
Your favorite book and why?
I would have to say The Conqueror series by Conn Iggulden or Winning Ugly by Brad Gilbert. While these books aren´t necessarily literary masterpieces, they are very entertaining, fun to read, and provide excellent counterbalance to the heavy reading required for my clinical work (mostly scientific and medical texts).
